Invercargill 4U Forum, 6 March 2007
STAND AND DELIVER: The Te Pou forum display boards have "easy-to-read-in-a-hurry" information about our work, our people and our dreams. Staff are on hand to show you around them and chat about your hopes for mental health in New Zealand.
"I wondered how the 'drop in' format would work, but it appeared to go really well.
Good opportunities for local networking as well. Took me two and a half
hours to do the circuit!!!" - Forum visitor
Invercargill lived up to its reputation as the friendly city! We had a great turn out and were met with hospitality and enthusiasm. People were most appreciative of Te Pou's visit, and expressed support for a central mental health workforce 'hub'. Thank you Invercargill, we felt most welcome.
Themes:
Supervision
Need for supervision for nursing staff; raised the issue of need for more supervisors.
Support Work
Need for career pathways to be developed; NZQA Diploma needs to '"get off the ground"; content of the certificate needs to be reviewed; increase awareness about outcome measurement and the utility of information.
Training
Lack of quality training available in Southland, and costs associated with travel; administrative staff need to be considered in training opportunities; AOD training needs to be more widely available to all allied health staff; there is no CTA funding available for clinical psychologists/interns; responsible clinician role needs to be supported and developed.
HR/Recruitment project
People expressed interest and enthusiasm about the templates/plans/HR Information Systems etc that emerge from these projects.
Other
Raised issues around supporting organisational culture/development, and increased contact with regional co-ordinator is seen as valuable.
